[ greef-wair ]
noun
A type of malware that is designed to exploit the emotions of the user, usually after a personal tragedy. Griefware can pose as a support group or a memorial page, but it is actually designed to steal personal information and defraud the user. It preys on vulnerable people who are seeking comfort and support during a difficult time, and can cause additional emotional harm as well as financial loss. Victims of griefware should report the attack immediately and seek both emotional and technical support.
